WinDES.DLL V1.0 Uploaded by Author: Steven Fisher CDP, CCP Controlled Information Environments P O Box 457 La Mesa, CA 91944-0457 USA Compuserve: 71750,3203 Internet: 71750.3203@compuserve.com WinDES is the Data Encryption Standard (DES) algorhythm implemented as a Microsoft Windows 3.x 16-bit Dynamic Link Library (DLL). Unlike stand-alone encryption utilities which only work on existing files, WinDES lets you embed DES cryptography within any program capable of making DLL calls (C, C++, Windows-aware Basic, PAL, ObjectVision, PowerBuilder) to add real-time security to your data stream. Imagine having truly PRIVATE E-mail! WinDES has been in use, unaltered, since 1990. It secures network passwords for a large Canadian insurance firm, and emulates bank ATMs for the world's second-largest computer manufacturer. It is small, convenient, and FAST! The WinDES DLL uses a 8-byte key to encode and decode 8-byte data packets using the basic DES Electronic Code Book (ECB) method. ECB is suitable for randomly accessed data, such as sectors within disk files. Registered users receive the ANSI-C source code to another two access methods built upon the DES ECB: Cipher Chain Block (CCB) for serially encrypting files so a single bit alteration changes the remainder of the file, and Cipher Feed Back (CFB) for communications where a single byte at a time is output instead of 8-byte packets. WinDES is Shareware. It is free for personal, non-commerical use. Others may register it for $15 US for a single user (SWREG ID 3052), or $150 US for a single Local Area Network site (SWREG ID 3196). A license for internal source code access and binary redistribution for $1000 US (SWREG ID 3197) provides the WinDES source code and the right to adapt and/or reuse the code in any number of company products as well as the right to redistribute the WinDES DLL for use with their products, but not the right to redistribute the original or altered WinDES source code without paying additional source code licenses. There is no charge for E-mail delivery. Send a stamped, self-addressed envelope and a floppy disk, or enclose an additional $5 US for shipping via US Mail, or add $20 US for Federal Express. Allow 4 weeks for checks drawn on US banks to clear; sorry, no Credit Cards or international drafts accepted. If you register via the Compuserve Software Registration Forum, your software will ship electronically the same day we are notified of your registration by the SWREG Sysop. Even though a Singapore plant makes DES chips for AMD, and a Japanese manufacturer sells machines with that chip to countries on every continent on Earth, US federal government export restrictions apply; WinDES is only available to US and Candian residents - everyone else should just pretend it does not exist. ### end of file ###
